The President’s remark may have been uncharacteristic but reflected the mood of many music fans who tuned in to watch the VMAs.

A spokesman said: “In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview.
ABC has since apologised to the White House.
Mr Obama is the latest public figure to criticise the rapper. Popstars Katie Perry and Pink have also lambasted him for previous behaviour.
West later apologised for his antics at the awards on the Jay Leno Show.
West has been widely condemned for jumping on stage during an acceptance speech by 19-year-old country-pop singer Taylor Swift and claiming that his friend Beyonce should have won the Best Female Video gong.
